Ivan, If you are installing Gaim from the tarry geezer, it may be that the SSL libraries live in a different directory in SuSE than the installation files want to see. And you have to specify SSL support when you configure Gaim. I shortcircuited the process by going to www.usr-local-bin.org and downloading a GAIM rpm especially designed for SuSE 9.0.
