On all the info I've read, LVM is another layer that can obsfucate other problems, I have to agree with jdd here. I'd opine you'd have a more reliable system with btrfs and subvols, rather than making some complicated mess with LVM with partitions all over the place. KEEP IT SIMPLE "KISS"
I'm sure that someone can make a mess with anything they choose, but that's not the point. LVM is not just a partition tool; it is there to manage spindles, deal with issue like striping and mirroring. If I just wanted to partition I'd use Parted. As for KISS, part of that gets back to the "do just one thing". LVM manages the multiple disks, much like mdadm manages multiple disks for RAID. Putting ext4 or ReiserFS on a LV is more KISS than using BtrFS because, as I've previously mentioned, BtrFS tries to do everything all in one. -- A: Yes. > Q: Are you sure? >> A: Because it reverses the logical flow of conversation. >>> Q: Why is top posting frowned upon? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
