Flippin' Heck! I've solved my own problem. These mailing lists work.... If you look below at the long message - sorry -all from me- I couldn't read my email. Anyway, I re-ran $ SuSEconfig and everything sorted itself out. Its things like that which makes SuSE a lovely piece of kit. Kev ======================================== This is certainly a permissions problem. Can someone tell me the permissions of: /var/spool/ and everything underneath this. ** DON'T BE STUPID AND MOVE YOUR HOME DIRECTORY AND VAR AND THEN SYMLINK THEM! ** To recap: 1. I INSTALLED A NEW IDE HARD DRIVE 2. I MOVED VAR AND HOME TO THE MOUNT POINT OF THIS (/usr3) 3. I SYMLINKED TO THE RELEVANT DIRECTORIES 4. DOING THIS HAS LOST ALL PERMISSIONS (root.root) 5. WHEN I RUN ELM I GET 7 RETRY MESSAGES ON READING MAIL (WAITING FOR DELIVERY) I CAN READ ROOTS EMAIL UNDER ELM - very understandable. I CAN'T ON ANY OTHER USER I even created a user, and tried to look at the settings but the same problem occured. I only have 1 Linux machine at my disposal here in work - and I never thought of checking at home. Please can someone help? Guess what? I didn't do it in single user mode - and I think I'm going to regret it. I now can't access my own email (using elm and Outlook across the network) but I can access roots email using elm. The console log tells me: procmail[416]: Renamed bogus "/var/spool/mail/jackk" into "/var/spool/mail/BOGUS.jackk.ZC" For some strange reason I reckon it has something to do with my yearn for extra disk space! :o) Can anyone shed any light! Is it a permissions problem? I think I've got a lead on this already - my Samba share to my home area comes up with permission denied... !
