The fact of the matter is that there are very few situations where it matters one way or the other.
If you want roaming, you need the same SSID. If you use different SSIDs, then the mobile device won't change access points until the signal drops so low as to be unusable. Only when it has lost the signal will it try connecting to another AP with a different SSID. When a single SSID is used for multiple APs, then roaming should be relatively smooth.
