Sounds like you may have picked up a bad web page. In /home/<login_name>/.mozilla/default/ you will find Cache. Either clean it out or simply delete it (it will get recreated when you restart FF).
No. I get a crash quite consistently when viewing PDFs. I've upgraded to Adobe Flash 10, which may be significant. At the moment my workaround is not to read the PDF within FF but to start up acroread externally -- I can think of nothing more boring for the American people than to have to sit in their living rooms for a whole half hour looking at my face on their television screens.
