Hello Koos,
No, there was no proxy. Download varied in the 200k/s to 500k/s range with gftp. Our cable technician said that I might be the only person on this cablesystem node, but I doubt it as I've seen download times drop around 8-9pm local time. Several people have said that xftp runs as fast as gftp on their system, but they did not say if they had a 28.8k modem or a faster connection. Rob.
Ik have no explanation for this. I doubt that the ftp protocol in itself allows for such great discrepencies. I can think of two more (fairly abvious) reasons: 1 - xftp is louzy 2 - gtp decompresses automatically during downloads and counts the decompressed end result as being the amount of bytes downloaded. Other than that I am clueless. Cheers, Koos Pol ---------------------------------------------------------------------- S.C.
