Hello list, We have a network of OpenSuSE 11.1 workstations that use a common NFS-shared /home (off an HP-UX 11i v1 server). The desktop environment in use is KDE 3.5. User accounts are managed through NIS (on the HP server). The same user account will typically login on all stations concurrently. From time to time, we experience some form of corruption of the home dir. of one of those users. I've not been able yet to pinpoint the exact file(s) that cause the problem, but restoring the affected home dir. from tape backup resolves the issue. The symptom is for the KDE Desktop startup to hang (after a successful login in KDM). The .xsession-errors contains the following: --------------------<cut>------------------------ preparing 8 bits screen... startkde: Starting up... kdeinit: Fatal IO error: client killed kdeinit: sending SIGHUP to children. klauncher: Exiting on signal 1 mwm: I/O error on display:: :0.3 kdeinit: sending SIGTERM to children. kdeinit: Exit. DCOP aborting while waiting for answer from 'kded' --------------------<cut>------------------------ For the curious, one of the stations (the one that generated this log) has 4 screens, the main one set to 24bit depth and running KDE, the other 3 set to 8bit depth and running MWM. That station also runs 4 instances of x11vnc, one per display. Has anyone here seen something like this in a similar setup ? TIA Cheers. Bye. Ph.
