I've searched on google for a solution but from what I've read, it seems like thunderbird will no longer be able to access gmail accounts using pop3. I received a notice from google, that after May 30 I will no longer be ale to retrieve mail using username/password. Oauth 2.0 apparently is only available for imap and not pop3 and 2sv with app passwords is not possible with thunderbird. where is the primary source for this notification from google? I have read about such stuff back in 2019 but these days there is oauth also for pop3 and imap, and it is in their developers pages given that pop3 uses oauth token (for each and every app/access specifically generated separately) as well

This is what I got:
-------- Forwarded Message -------- Subject: You may lose access to some of your third-party apps Date: Fri, 29 Apr 2022 01:43:05 GMT From: Google <no-reply@accounts.google.com> To: user@gmail
Google On May 30, you may lose access to apps that are using less secure sign-in technology user@gmail.com
To help keep your account secure, Google will no longer support the use of third-party apps or devices which ask you to sign in to your Google Account using only your username and password. Instead, you’ll need to sign in using Sign in with Google <https://accounts.google.com/AccountChooser?Email=55.rada@gmail.com&continue=https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/112802?rfn%3D1651196585577%26anexp%3Dnret-fa> or other more secure technologies, like OAuth 2.0. *Email software, like Outlook 2016 or earlier,* has less secure access to your Gmail. Switch to Office 365, Outlook 2019 or newer, or any other email software where you can sign in using *Sign in with Google*.
I fail to find the statement "our POP3 service does not work with oauth2" in this mail.
And this is what I read that explains that Oauth 2.0 will not work with pop3:

This link starts with the statement "TB stops work with POP3" without providing a single source or proof for it. It takes at most 5 minutes test TB with oauth2 to see for yourself, but apparently you prefer trusting random Internet site and jumping through the hoops. Your choice.
