Mike, I have a Geforce MX 4000 running on SuSE 9.2. (and SuSE 9.1) It is a bit of work to get it going with the Nvidia driver, but this is how I do it. You need to get the NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-6111-pkg1.run driver package from http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux_display_ia32_1.0-6111.html The latest is NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-6629-pkg1.run, but I haven't been able to get it working. There appears to be a known bug with this card and the latest driver. You will need the driver above for the MX4000. You may get some help at the nvidia forums as well. http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=14 There is a howto at http://www.suse.de/~sndirsch/nvidia-installer-HOWTO.html#020suse92 , but this didn't work for me. You need to install the correct kernel source package for your kernel. Use uname -r to get your kernel version. baz:/u00 # uname -r 2.6.5-7.111.30-default (This is the kernel from my SuSE 9.1 system) You then need to do a setup a few files in your kernel source area. cd /usr/src/linux make oldconfig make modules After make module has run for a while, press CTRL C. The files you need are created in the first few files. You then need to go to run level 3 and cd to the directory that the nvidia driver is. Then sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-6111-pkg1.run -q --kernel-source-path=/usr/src/linux Ignore the warning about rivafb Configure X.Org with sax2 -m 0=nvidia (Note: 0 is a digit, not a letter!) After sax2 is finished you can start you X with init 5 You should get a nvidia splash screen up and X should be up and running. The info above is very brief and not that well put together and does assume that you have some linux knowledge. If someone knows of a published howto could you please pass it on. You need to follow this procedure when you get a new kernel as well. This works for me but isn't necessarily the best way to get this driver to work. Hope this helps. Cheers, Barrie Hill
I just purchased a Geforce MX 4000 and tried installing SuSE 9.2, only to find that the video adapter is not recognized by SuSE. Has anyone here had any luck installing the nVidia Geforce MX 4000 video adapter? It's defaulting to the Vesa adapter.
Any help is greatly appreciated!
Thanks, Mike
