Hello All,
Thanks to many of you on this list I have my vmware 2.04 running with win 98 SE as guest on my Suse 8.2 , 2.4.21 kernel ,athlon xp 16+ system. So far it is doing well except for networking. I do not want to use the vmware samba, because I have samba set up and working fine between all 3 of our computers here at home. I only want to share files, folders, maybe the zip drive between my vmware win 98 guest and my Suse 8.2 host.
Setup/configure host-only networking. Do not allow bridged or masqueraded networking. Then the virtual machine only talks to the host machine. If you do not have routing enabled on the host machine, no other computer can reach the virtual machine. Also the virtual machine cannot access other computers including the Internet. If this is not what you want, enable routing and set up a firewall (I like the SuSEfirewall) to block all incoming connections to the internal network (the VMware sub-net). HTH, Jeffrey
