Hi all, I just did a fresh install to OpenSUSE 10.2 DVD, and found none of my applications could detect a sound output device, yet the config tools showed my card to be correctly set up and could output test sound. It turned out I wasn't a member of the "audio" group, and in fact many of the groups I was a member of in previous versions I wasn't a member of any more. Just add yourself to the "audio" group in YaST->Security and Users->User and Group Administration. Also add "audio" to the default groups, with Expert Options->New User Defaults, in the Secondary Groups field. Similarly with any other group you think you should be in but aren't.
