In other words, the PICTURE was stationary relative to the camera. In the OP's case, the earth (taking the camera with it) moved relative to the picture. I've done this sort of thing myself, and you get subject movement blur after about 30 *seconds* so depending on how long it was between shots, the earth (and camera) would have moved considerably relative to the picture.
