Hello:
In openSUSE Leap 15.1 I configured network service using network manager (not wicked).
It seems when I stop network service, the network is not disabled. See:
When the network is on:
# systemctl status network ● NetworkManager.service - Network Manager Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/system/NetworkManager.service; enabled; vendor preset: disabled) Drop-In: /usr/lib/systemd/system/NetworkManager.service.d └─NetworkManager-ovs.conf Active: active (running) since Tue 2019-08-27 01:05:10 CEST; 7min ago Docs: man:NetworkManager(8) Main PID: 2674 (NetworkManager) Tasks: 4 (limit: 4915) CGroup: /system.slice/NetworkManager.service ├─2674 /usr/sbin/NetworkManager --no-daemon └─2699 /sbin/dhclient -d -q -sf /usr/lib/nm-dhcp-helper -pf /var/run/dhclient-eth1.pid -lf /var/lib/Netwo>
...
# systemctl stop network
# systemctl status network ● NetworkManager.service - Network Manager Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/system/NetworkManager.service; enabled; vendor preset: disabled) Drop-In: /usr/lib/systemd/system/NetworkManager.service.d └─NetworkManager-ovs.conf Active: inactive (dead) since Tue 2019-08-27 01:15:17 CEST; 4s ago Docs: man:NetworkManager(8) Process: 2674 ExecStart=/usr/sbin/NetworkManager --no-daemon (code=exited, status=0/SUCCESS) Main PID: 2674 (code=exited, status=0/SUCCESS) Tasks: 1 (limit: 4915) CGroup: /system.slice/NetworkManager.service └─2699 /sbin/dhclient -d -q -sf /usr/lib/nm-dhcp-helper -pf /var/run/dhclient-eth1.pid -lf /var/lib/Netwo>
...
Still I can ping sites and can browse the internet:
# ping opensuse.org PING opensuse.org(opensuse.org (2620:113:80c0:8::19)) 56 data bytes 64 bytes from opensuse.org (2620:113:80c0:8::19): icmp_seq=1 ttl=54 time=52.2 ms 64 bytes from opensuse.org (2620:113:80c0:8::19): icmp_seq=2 ttl=54 time=52.3 ms
...
What do I do wrong?
Probably nothing. I can partially reproduce it. In my case dhclient is stopped, but interface configuration and routes remain. I cannot find anything in documentation that describes it this way, but I believe I have seen somewhere statements that it is intended. You may have better luck asking on NetworkManager list. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
