Hi all, I know this has been asked previously but I can't find it in my archives. I'm currently running SuSE 5.3 and just rcv'd. the subscription of 6.1. I intend to backup all the 'config' files and am asking would it be better to do a clean install or just the upgrade? I'd appreciate any feedback. I have visited the suse.de/Support/ site and found it very informative and a lot of 'look out for this', good stuff!
Hi Don An upgrade from 5.3 --> 6.0/1 is not a very good idea. It's not impossible. You might get it to work somehow. But you will presumable get lots of problems. And after that you system might not be as stable as it was before. The main problem is, that 5.3 is libc5 based while 6.0+ is glibc based. I've been working with linux for years, but I would do it, really. My definite advice is to back up your personal stuff and do a clean new install. It might take you a good deal of work to get all your configuration and customization back, but I'm sure it will save you lots of headaches. Henning -- H.
