Hi, I've been setting up some new computers with 10.3 and I've used http://suseforums.net/index.php?showtopic=26104 to install support for MP3 etc (using the Gnome link since that's what's on the machines!). I've also done a full update of the software to the latest versions as part of the installation. Now Banshee won't play MP3 files (though RealPlayer does play them).

My system at home still plays MP3s in Banshee, but then I'm running KDE
You're running kde and instead of amarok, you use banshee? (scratches head...)
No, but I actually installed both KDE & Gnome on my home computer so I could play with GNOME when I want to. On these other machines, there is only Gnome.
it started life as a 10.2 install which has been upgraded to 10.3, whereas the new machines are a totally fresh install of 10.3).
My 10.3 systems are all fresh installs and up to date, and play all the usual multimedia - but I merely added the packman repo and then added the apps I wanted (amarok, xine, mplayer, kaffeine, w32codecs) rather than the blind "one-click" method.

Further investigation today has shown the problem was actually nothing to do with MP3 files - oops! The problem is actually that Banshee can't play files from an SMB share 'mounted' in Nautilus because it's not really mounted, it's just an smb:// URL that Banshee can't access. Real Player can access smb:// urls so it can play the files. All the MP3 files I was trying to play were on a windows machine I was accessing via this method.
