Use the ustility SAX to configure your X server. After making all your selections you can adjust the height, width and the vert and horz positions. If that doesn't work use xvidtune. This is more tricky so you better read the man pages first.
I have always had better results setting up X with XF86Setup, especially with the newer ATI cards, based on the 3D Rage 2C chip. With these cards, I have had excellent results with the Mach64 server, but have found that I need to insert a "ChipID 0x4755", either manually into XF86Config, like so: Section "Device" Identifier "Primary Card" VendorName "Unknown" BoardName "ATI Mach64" ChipId 0x4755 or by using the detailed card setup in XF86Setup. xvidtune will allow you to adjust your monitor to eliminate black borders. Be very cautious with how you set your refresh rates in XF86Setup, and how you adjust things in xvidtune! Make sure you know the limits of your monitor, and don't exceed them, you can wreck a monitor with X. The other side is that you can get the full performance of your monitor. -- Gravity is a myth, the Earth sucks. - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e Check out the SuSE-FAQ at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/"><A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A">http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A</A>> and the archiv at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html"><A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A">http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A</A>>
