www.tomshardware.com is a great site for reviews of this type. They have recent articles comparing the latest and greatest chipsets from Intel, AMD, VIA and SIS for both Intel and AMD platforms (as appropriate). They were in raptures over the latest SIS chipset for P4, 'cos it spanks the bottom of all the others. They do a lot of pretty graphs, too, if you like graphs. Personally, I had my own fatwa on SIS for many years. Their old integrated efforts back in the bad old days were a total nightmare. It seems that they have moved with the times, so I'm keeping an eye on them again. Unfortunately for them, VIA modified its last Athlon chipset and made it work properly, so VIA are once again king of the heap for Athlon mobos. Check out Tom's site, it's well worth it. Bye for now, Stuart. -----Original Message----- From: suse-linux-e-return-76932-stuart=yorkshirepudding.com@suse.com [mailto:suse-linux-e-return-76932-stuart=yorkshirepudding.com@suse.com]O n Behalf Of Tracer Bullet Sent: 24 October 2001 15:47 To: suse-linux-e@suse.com Subject: [SLE] SiS chipsets? Hi all, I have seen a comment or two on this list concering SiS chipset motherboards and one person that was completely against using this chipset. I am wondering what the general consensus is on the SiS motherboards? The reason I ask is that ECS makes a very nice motherboard/s and some of them use the SiS chipset which they are able to get very good results with as far as performance and overclocking. Of course, I am sure there is a site comparing all these things, but as a relative newbie still, I don't know where they all are yet. I like to hear it directly from the users themselves also, their experiences, pros & cons. So what do you think of the SiS chipset motherboards? Like them, don't like them? Does Linux like them or not?
