I have a server that is running CUPS print deamon. I want to administer it via a web browser, but i cannot get it to bind to port 631.
I have the cups.conf file set up the same as on another machine that works fine.
In the cups error log I get the following message:
StartListening: Unable to bind socket - Cannot assign requested address.
What does this mean? Where can I start looking? Any ideas?
It usually means that the address is already taken by something, probably the the very daemon you are trying to start. Do a "socklist" and see what is on 631. The other problem may be the fact that when you are coming in thru a web browser, and you are user wwwrun group nogroup. You need to be root to access ports under 1024, so you may be having trouble starting cups thru a webbrowser.
