I didn't say it was unsupported but rather supported only sporadicly. If you check the news section on checkinstalls home page for when the support for glibc's at-style functions was available from the checkinstall git repo, you'll see it was added on Nov the 16th 2008! Now given that support for at-style functions is mandatory for any halfway recent glibc, it's very telling that it took its author *one year* to release a version that includes that support. I don't know what you think but in my book that' less then poor support.
