[opensuse] Udevd CPU spikes?

Just started noticing this phenomenon. About every 10 minutes or so (very loosely), my CPU spikes, fan kicks in. I finally had `top` open at the right time to catch it, and it was a pair (yes, pair) of udevd processes, owned by root. Lasts about a minute. opensuse 11.2, quad core HP box, 8G ram. Very little exercising the box - mutt, 3 firefox windows with static content (no flash) and a relatively quiet java app. Interactive latency is not particularly affected. Any ideas?
