Hi again,
1) The first problem is listed below. It looks to me as if either the structure of the repository has changed or there is some other sort of problem with it. Alternatively, I could of course edit the /etc/apt/sources.list, but I am unsure as to what is supposed to reside in these repository directories:
<snipped> Make sure you get the latest sources.list from the website. Then re run apt-get update. Here's mine to save you a step ... # # Repository created by: aptate (version 059cvs021214) # At: Son Mär 2 19:43:43 MET 2003 # More info about aptate at: http://apt4rpm.sourceforge.net # rpm ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/suse/apt SuSE/8.1-i386 wine suse-people base update-prpm update kde gnome2 xfree86 mozilla extra usr-local-bin suser-kpietrz suser-tcousin funktronics packman packman-i686 kde3-stable security-prpm security rpm-src ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/suse/apt SuSE/8.1-i386 wine suse-people base update-prpm update kde xfree86 mozilla extra usr-local-bin suser-kpietrz suser-tcousin funktronics packman packman-i686 kde3-stable security-prpm security I removed ximian and mantel-kernel, and gnome2 from the source part
2) I had to install synaptic using the latest rpm as a result of the above problems. That shouldn't cause the following error though, should it?
valhalla:/home/brian # synaptic Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server Xlib: Invalid XDM-AUTHORIZATION-1 key (failed key comparison)
Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display: :0.0
Did you su or use sux? Try sux -c synaptic.
As a side note, the above apt-get install command is for "ooopi" a dictionary utility to be used with OpenOffice.org. I haven't found anything in the sources.list that includes OpenOffice.org, of course it would depend on whether OpenOffice.org is included in the repository or not. Does anyone know, or is there another repository that contains OpenOffice.org bits?
All your problems should go away with a new sources.list and with sux rather than su. As for ooopi, I haven't seen it on apt / synaptic. The only thing that rings a bell is oooqs. I think it's a oo quick starter. -- Franklin Maurer Using SuSE 8.1
