Ivan,
If you are installing Gaim from the tarry geezer, it may be that the SSL libraries live in a different directory in SuSE than the installation files want to see. And you have to specify SSL support
What I really did was install everything reasonable concerning SSL/Mozilla from SUSE DVD and copy the configure options from J. Ogley srpm. I didn't notice any warning or error concerning SSL libs, everything compile OK... but gaim complains anyway when I try to use a MSN account. I was wondering if he compiled it with some newer lib version (newer mozilla???) or anything I didn't notice. checking for Mozilla nspr libraries... yes checking for Mozilla nss3 includes in /opt/mozilla/include/nss... "" checking nss.h usability... yes checking nss.h presence... yes checking for nss.h... yes checking ssl.h usability... yes checking ssl.h presence... yes checking for ssl.h... yes etc...
when you configure Gaim. I shortcircuited the process by going to www.usr-local-bin.org and downloading a GAIM rpm especially designed for SuSE 9.0. It worked right the first time.
I saw them... but I'd like to understand what's wrong with mine + starting from SUSE spm I gained a couple of man pages more... but a not working SSL :( anyway I just checked which is lighter among kopete and gaim: ivan@stige:~> ls -lh `which kopete` -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 1.4M 2003-10-24 15:00 /opt/kde3/bin/kopete ivan@stige:~> ls -lh `which gaim` -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 12M 2003-12-03 15:19 /opt/gnome/bin/gaim Unfortunately Kopete doesn't seem to work in window maker. In suse 8.1 I was able to compile it, load it but it stayed iconified and I couldn't use it... OK... time to rpmize tightvnc... newer rdesktop worked like a charm on SUSE 9.0 :) BTW... I still have some rpm for SUSE 8.1 here: http://www.webthatworks.it/docs/rpms.asp I'll add soon a page for 9.0
