I'm on a cable modem. The IP address is so consistent, it's virtually static. Also, the host name is based on the modem and firewall MAC addresses and is consistent, so long as I don't change the hardware. I have the DNS configured to provide an alias to that rather long host name. As I mentioned in another note, I get my DNS service via Google apps.
