Romain, if you take a look at this file: f/usr/share/doc/packages/alsa/SOUNDCARDS then you can read this (line 69): ID: Ensoniq AudioPCI (ES1370,ES1371) SC: SoundBlaster PCI 64 SC: SoundBlaster PCI 128 IF: MIXER,PCM,MIDI I got a PCI 64 card running Alsa on ES1371 configured with YaST2, everything works fine except some (but not all) MIDI functions are missing. It seems that 'full' MIDI support for these cards is simply not available in Linux (yet!). This is the AlsaConf output in my /etc/modules.conf file: # --- BEGIN: Generated by ALSACONF, do not edit. --- # --- ALSACONF verion 0.5.8 --- alias char-major-116 snd alias snd-card-0 snd-card-ens1371 alias char-major-14 soundcore alias sound-slot-0 snd-card-0 alias sound-service-0-0 snd-mixer-oss alias sound-service-0-1 snd-seq-oss alias sound-service-0-3 snd-pcm-oss alias sound-service-0-8 snd-seq-oss alias sound-service-0-12 snd-pcm-oss options snd snd_major=116 snd_cards_limit=1 snd_device_mode=0660 snd_device_gid=17 snd_device_uid=0 post-install snd alsactl restore # --- END: Generated by ALSACONF, do not edit. --- If it works for me then it should work for you, if you are running SuSE 7.0 at least. In 6.4 I couldn't get any MIDI at all to work. Cheers, ei On Tuesday 30 January 2001 10:28, Romain Boulanger wrote:
Well I've problem with MIDI, so I think thaht, as I am a newbie, I could have not well installed my soundcard (Ensoniq SBPCI 1371). I've been told that alsa was the simpliest way to install a PCI soundcard, so I tried (I just say 'tried') to install it with alsa. Firstly, with YaST2: Everything is ok, it detects my soundcard (Ensoniq Creative Sound Blaster AudioPCI 128), but then it says "the kernel module snd-card-ens1371 for sound support can't be loaded". So, no sound... Secondly, with alsaconf: Everything i ok, it detects mu soundcard..., seems to install it and...
Starting sound driver: snd-card-ens1371 alsactl: The sound card 'card1' was not found... alsactl: The sound card 'card1' was not found... /lib/modules/2.2.16/misc/snd-card-ens1371.o: init_module: Device orn resource busy Hint: this error can be caused by incorrect parameters, including IO or IRQ parameters. /lib/modules/2.2.16/misc/snd-card-ens1371.o: insmod /lib/modules/2.2.16/snd-card-ens1371.o failed /lib/modules/2.2.16/misc/snd-card-ens1371.o: insmod snd-card-ens1371 failed.
Now I have the same message when I boot, concluded by a wonderful 'done' (it looks like Microsoft...) and no sound.
When I installed my soundcard with OSS (before alsa), I had sound, but no MIDI, and I had to type 'modprobe es1371' after each boot to make my soundcad work. So I think a soundcard half working is better than a soundcard not working, and I will uninstall alsa, but I will need to have MIDI very soon, because I use a software in my job which uses MIDI (the developers of this soft themselves adviced me a SB PCI 128, so it does'nt come from the soundcard...). So I probably misunderstand something in the docs (because O know people having MIDI with the same soundcard and SuSE), anyone can help me? Thanks, Romain
