Ever since I upgraded to 10.1, my screen saver has not worked. I don't know why I have taken this long to address the problem, but, anyway, I'd like to get it working again. As far as I can tell, everything is still set up the same as it was in 10.0. If I test it, it works fine, but it just never comes on. Anyone else experienced this problem since
migrating
to 10.1?
Hi, yes, i had this problem as well.
After installing 2 fresh 10.1 (a Desktop (nVidia), a laptop (ATI)), it was OK.
After updating all recommended packages via ZEN, i started having this problem: no screensaver.
You know, I can't say for sure I had the problem from the time I first upgraded to 10.1 or whether it just started recently. I just happened to notice it recently (I'm not always the most observant individual). So, maybe it started happening on my machine sometime after I first installed 10.1 instead of from the very beginning.
Yes.......be sure you have the latest video driver installed if NVidia or ATI, and have used Smart and updated as of yesterday so you get the latest KDE files.
And there, after tweaking the recommended packages, i did notice one thing:
the update of the kdebase package seems to be the culprit.
When upgrading (YAST, ZEN, smart...): kdebase3-3.5.1-69 to kdebase3-3.5.1-69.15
i lost my screensaver.
Well, I'm on kdebase3-3.5.1-69.15, so if that's the source of the problem, that would explain it. I'm not well versed in doing manual upgrades. I always just update through YaST, unless I'm installing some 3rd party software from a different source. I also worry about dependencies at this stage of the game (i. e., maybe there are other packages that I have that are dependent on having this latest kdebase3 version). I guess I'll just hang in there and hope that a future patch clears up the problem, unless someone knows of some specific tweak I can make manually that will fix the problem.
Fred
I think I'm completely up to date on updates. As far as a Video driver, I'm using (and have been for a long time) an old Radeon VE. Hard to believe that all of a sudden it's causing a screen saver problem.

I wonder how much people is affected with the above recommended update, but at this time, i rolled back to the kdebase3-3.5.1-69 and the screensavers are back again.
Both with nVidia and ATI.
Since then i do not install them. Anyway, this is a personnal choice, as there might have good reasons to upgrade that KDE essential package.
But with the .15, couldn't find a way to have the screensavers (unless using xscreensaver)
What i find strange is to had this problem on 2 PCs, and no threads about it. (OK, i didn't start, either :-)
Same here. I actually noticed this some time ago but just never got around to addressing it until the last few days.
But still, i would like to upgrade kdebase3 and have all running fine...
