This is because the new kernel RPMs are made with RPM version 4, whereas SuSE 8.2 and earlier use a patched RPM v3,
What makes you believe that our RPM4 isn't patched :) Believe me, there were quite a few things we had to change/fix. You'll see it in our RPM4 .src.rpm.
I didn't think I implied that. Just that SuSE 8.2 and earlier use a patched v3 RPM that can read v4 rpm files fine. I'm not an expert by any means, I'm just very grateful it works! :-) I've not bothered to update rpm to v4.x -- SuSE's 3.0.6 seems to be working fine for me.... are there any pressing advantages in upgrading?
