At this time it becomes difficult even to swap to the virtual console with ctrl-alt-f1, and having got there, even though I changed the login time-out to 10 minutes, sometimes it times out. Wouldn't it be a good idea if there were a way to get a shell with hi priority urgently? Perhaps there is. It would probably need to be on an interrupt like ctrl-alt-D.
Did You check Magic SysRq key? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magic_SysRq_key It must be allowed first in YaST. I'm not sure where. I guess security settings or kernel could be good starting points.
