It is rather amazing how you put words in other people's mouths. We were discussing IP redirecting; you said "additional IP addresses on an interface are useless because they cannot be used in place of interface in iptables rules" and I replied that additional IP addresses are useful outside of iptables rules and can be matched in iptables rules as well. How you managed to draw the conclusion that I meant the overall design of your network I fail to grasp. And before you also claimed that I said that "the interface model isn't a well thought out consistent design, but just another example of a bad hack job" without any evidence. Really amazing. Anyway - the most obvious and easy solution to your "problem" is connecting your ISP uplink to the external switch and directly assigning external addresses on interfaces connected to this switch.
