now that OpenOffice is Apache, wouldn't it make sense to join the developpers forces again together on one Project?
Of course, it would be nice to join the forces and avoid some duplicated work. On the other hand, competition is nice as well. It motivates people to create better solutions. I am afraid that the project will not join anytime soon. LibreOffice is running, healthy, and growing project with many contributors, regular, and improving releases. The community is friendly. The processes and infrastructure are effective and encouraging. There is big effort to make it even better. The Apache project is younger and goes its own way. I do not have much experience with it, so I can't tell much more. I think that only future would say what project will have bigger success. I personally believe into LibreOffice :-) Best Regards, Petr PS: I maintain libreoffice packages for openSUSE. It is not trivial. IMHO, it is not worth the effort to maintain also packages of the other project. Instead, I want to put my effort into providing early builds of upcoming LO releases in the LibreOffice:Unstable BS project[1]. Early testing is important to fix bugs in time and have better final release. [1] Try the 3.6.3 packages from http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/LibreOffice:/Unstable/ I want to put there LO-4.0 betas in December. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
