I'm about to go from a 486 to a Pentium II with a 400MHz chip and a 100MHz bus. For technical reasons am getting one of the new Adaptec Ultra2 controllers. Yes, I know it will probably be a good while before this card is supported. Therefore, until it is, I'm going to run linux on an external hard disk. I will have 4 external peripherals: 2 hard disks, a scanner, and a CDR. All are SCSI-2. So I'm planning to get a second controller to run these devices until linux supports the Adaptec Ultra2. My first thought was to go BusLogic. However, I'd be forced to buy a very expensive one because of compatibility issues with new mother boards. So, does anyone have any suggestions as to a suitable controller which wouldn't cost me an arm and a leg? Again, it doesn't have to handle anything beyond SCSI-2.
