I can't figure out how to go from one Linux laptop to another, via rlogin, ssh, etc.
can you ping one laptop from the other laptop? Make sure the ip scheme, subnet mask, etc are consistent.
I also can't see the Apple machines from the Linux boxes, or vice-versa. I'd like to make it so the Linux machines are visible & log-inable inside my LAN.
You need to set up netatalk in order for the macs to see the linux machines in the Chooser. Contact me off-line if you need help setting it up. To work the other way around (to see the macs from the linux machines) ... well, i haven't tried it but here is the way to do it: http://www.anders.com/projects/netatalk/mirror/afpfs-1.0b2q2.tar.gz --------------------------- Eric Carbone -----Original Message----- From: tauzero.com/suse [mailto:suse@tauzero.com] Sent: Tuesday, March 26, 2002 2:46 PM To: SuSE Subject: [SLE] basic networking in LAN with DHCP I have two laptops running SuSE Linux 7.3 as part of my home network. Both are using 802.11b wireless, and hook up just fine through an Apple Airport for access to the external internet - they are able to browse the Web, fetch and send Pop email, do ssh to external machines, etc. The Airport is connected vie ethernet to a 3Com ISDN modem with an integrated firewall and ethernet hub; the DHCP is done on the 3Com box. They are also able to print to an Axis printserver that I have connected to the 3Com box - they are able to find it as a named computer, and address its print queue. I also have six Apple Macs on the network; they are all able to see each other via Apple's file sharing methods, and print, and access the external web . Here is the problem: I can't figure out how to go from one Linux laptop to another, via rlogin, ssh, etc. I also can't see the Apple machines from the Linux boxes, or vice-versa. I'd like to make it so the Linux machines are visible & log-inable inside my LAN. This is probably dirt simple (I hope so anyway!), but I just lack the one or two essential bits of know-how that I have not had the wit to glean from the available documentation. I'd appreciate any advice & pointers. -- R o b T o w robtow@tauzero.com www.tauzero.com/Rob_Tow (408)-829-7407 * * his sword for hire * another faithless lord left, * the ronin walks on * -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the archives at http://lists.suse.com
