Hi all, I know this list is about opensuse and this is a sles10 question, but I'm sure there are people here that have valuable clues. I am running sles10sp1 64 bit on IBM xSeries 3650, and want to connect an HP 920 ultrium external sas tape drive using a straight through mini sas cable. This works fine at the bios level: the RAID controller (ServeRAID 8k) identifies the tapedrive, and the bios diagostics work. However: suse 10sp1 (fully patched) sees absolutely nothing. According to the novell website, this particular tapedrive is "fully supported" on suse linux enterprise 10. The tape drive is connected (according to the bios diags) to SCSI Bus 1 (ID 1, LUN 0) and the harddisks are connected to Bus 0 (ID 0, 1, 2 and 3) "modprobe st" loads the module, but still gives no /dev/st0. server:~ # lsmod |egrep '^(sd|st|sg|aic|scsi)' st 42532 0 sg 40248 0 sd_mod 25728 4 scsi_mod 156856 6 st,sg,aacraid,sr_mod,libata,sd_mod I tried the ubuntu 8.04 server live cd, and it sees the tape drive immediately, no problems whatsoever. I happen to have a second, identical machine, tried to connect it there too: same problem. What could be the problem here? Do I need to do anything else to get suse to see the tape drive? I did not install any drivers, because I'm under the impression that I don't need those. Am I wrong? Any ideas would be very much appreciated!!
