Hi list,
I have heard, that the right question leads to the right answer. But how to find the right question in as few words as possible?
Knowing your subject. Portion of every good question contains portion of the answer.
Say, if i want to contribute, by fi, adding a theme to download for others, as test, or as part of a 'brand'. But i do not know who to ask... What question should i ask (in google, or on this list) to get the right answer?
One way to use as little words as possible was to state your question without general intro :) -------------------------------------------------------------------- I want to contribute easy way to add, or change theme, in openSUSE. How can I do that? -------------------------------------------------------------------- Those with more experience will figure out that you need someone that can publish your experience (wiki, forums, mail list, blogs), or someone that can package theme for openSUSE (skilled packager, branding repository for immediate download and OBS process to include package in the next release). Actually, you will need both to make maximum use of your effort. Now answers are different for both venues, publishing process and publishing packages. For wiki: It is you that will write article, and helper to bring that in wiki policies is most likely me. For forums: You start thread with article about your experience, and ask forum admins and helpers to see how to make that easier to access. For mail lists: You are here, so just post longer email with procedure how to add/change theme, and ask other to help with other places. For blogs: Post article to blog. If your blog is only about openSUSE then you can ask to be included in Planet openSUSE, so that many more people can see when you post something. OBS: This one usually works best when you start from opensuse-packaging mail list. Asking someone to help may work fine if you provide all files before you ask, so it would be good to create article first and when whole source is ready, go there and ask. Ideally, source is tar.xz file that will contain all files that theme needs, graphics, scripts, configuration, with their locations in the file system. In other words, for guys that know how to package, but don't know where each theme file goes, it is necessary to give whole path, not only file name. Assume that packager will know where to place each file is wrong. Only few that package branding stuff know that, and they are small fraction of all packagers that can help you.
