Hi, Group:
Some very basic information about installing SuSE 7.2 rpm packages from the included CDs has escaped my understanding.
My problem is, that the expected behavior just doesn't happen. I'm expecting to be able to put one of the included CDs in the CD-ROM drive, launch kpackage or Yast2 or (from thecommand line), the rpm program, specify the desired package, and be prompted to enter the search path, including the device, if it's on a CD - a la Caldera, RedHat, etc.
I just can't seem to make this happen. The "Configuration" manual and the "Reference" manual don't help, and the book "Maximum RPM" yields nothing that matches the SuSE environment, within the constraints of this particular issue.
You're making it waaay too tough on yourself. 1) Start up Yast2 2) Select install/remove Software 3) It will gyrate for awhile and eventually give you the package list. 4) I usually go to the bottom of the 'group list' and select 'zall' 5) It sorts the list and then shows you all the packages. (and also shows you what is installed already). 6) Select the package you want with 'apply' 7) After selecting all of the pkgs you want to install, click on 'ok' and it will tell you what CD's to insert as it installs the packages. Am I missing something here? It works for me. +----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ + Bruce S.
