I'm having some serious problems when trying to send mail out over my PPP connection. My ISP have dynamic ip addressing, which adds to the problem. What I see is this: I'm presently using smail, but I saw the same results with sendmail. Things look like this: 118 jesusfreak:~ > /usr/lib/sendmail -v mhostetl@cse.unl.edu hello . write_log:Received FROM:mikeh PROGRAM:sendmail SIZE:76 mhostetl@cse.unl.edu: cse.unl.edu matched by bind_hosts: routed mhostetl@cse.unl.edu --> mhostetl@cse.unl.edu at cse.unl.edu transport hint mx 0 cse.unl.edu address hint cse.unl.edu 129.93.33.1 transport inet_zone_bind_smtp uses driver tcpsmtp lock retry/smtp/cse.unl.edu lock succeeded (will defer failure) retry/smtp/cse.unl.edu transport inet_zone_bind_smtp: connect to host cse.unl.edu [129.93.33.1]/smtp...connected transport inet_zone_bind_smtp: 451 <mikeh@jesusfreak.binary.net>... Sender domain must resolve So it can't resolve my hostname, which wouldn't happen if I had a static ip address.
