I'm going to be building a computer and installing S.U.S.E. 5.2 on it. Does it make any difference on what monitor I use, as long as the video card is supported?
Yes... the combination of the two is essential to the overall performance of the Xserver you will be running... So video cards are slow and don't have many fancy features to make a nice Xenviroment work easily (Older Tridents), Other video cards (ATI's are wonderful) can make any monitor do wonderful things... I own a Trident 9685 providia with 4megs of ram, and since they've combined the SuSE Trident Xserver withe the SVGA Xserver, I can get 1024x768 with a 16 bit color depth on my 15" CTX 1562GM. The best setup I've witnessed personally was a RIVA128 (4 megs) running 1280x1024 at 32 bit color depth (I think) on a 17" MAG (or Viewsonic) and it had extra resolution (modes) to spare... I was jealous... The scrolling was the smoothest I've seen, ever! I wished I could have seen what mpeg looked like...
