wonder if someone can point me out how to read & write chinese in SuSE.
Check out http://www.suse.com/~mfabian/ which contains documentation on "CJK Support in SuSE Linux", with a decided emphasis on Japanese support (since, as stated there, that's where the author's experience mostly lies). There is also an associated CJK mailing list where you can get more assistance. Note that I've just perused the docs and haven't yet actually installed any CJK support on my SuSE 7.3 system other than that which shipped on the (US) CD set. Hope this helps!
