Yep, For years and years on Arch I just used startx <some desktop> to start the desktop I wanted. (fluxbox by default) Then setup lightdm and just left it. Simple, lightweight, and like all DMs provides the list of available desktops. Reasonable screen locking and blanking without x-screensaver (not sure if that's a plus) But most Arch boxes I have are servers -- so all I really cared about was the screen-blanking so the monitors turned off. -- David C.
