This should depend on what you have in /etc/X11/XF86Config. I have:

Section "Device"
  BoardName    "GeForce4 MX 440"
  BusID        "1:0:0"
  Driver       "nvidia"
  Identifier   "Device[0]"
  Screen       0
  Option       "NoLogo"
  Option       "backingstore"
  Option       "Rotate" "off"
  VendorName   "NVidia"
EndSection

The 'Option "NoLogo"' suppresses the splash screen.
