modules.conf and ACPI kernel modules (ac.o & battery.o)

Some newbie questions: 1. How can I add /lib/modules/<release>/acpi/battery.o to modules.conf? 2. I cannot figure out how to get this 'alias char-major-???' for battery.o? 3. What are these magic 'char-major-???' things? thanks, MSJ.
