Frank If you use YaST, you can find the answer to your questions about missing files. Go into the PACKAGE INFORMATION section nad hit F9 to include the the CD in the search. Put the file you need on the search line & hit F5. I see that I do have Imake & it was "probably" installed when I loaded up the xdevel package. It seems to be in a few other packages, as well There are some needed files in a package called "easy". I needed ginstall, which is not includes normally (?), and found it in the easy package. Ginstall was installed in .usr/bin ( Where Bodo says it should be) but the tarballs I was installing looked for it in /bin. So make a sym-link and you should be all set. HTH wayne Subject: [S.u.S.E. Linux] Several Problems Date: Wed, Feb 11, 1998 at 03:18:51PM -0600 In reply to:Frank Pawlak Quoting Frank Pawlak(fpawlak@execpc.com):
The installation of SuSE 5.1 appeared to go well, most things are working as expected. However several problems remain. These problems are becomming an increasing source of irratation. It just seems a whole lot easier to configure and use some utilities and apps on Slackware and FreeBSD. Otherwise I like SuSE.
First. Knews was installed from the distribution CD and operates as expected except when attempting to post to a news group. When a post is attempted I get an error to the effect that the Domain Name is not set, posting not allowed. YAST was used to set both the nameserver and NNTP server, but the problem remains.
As a remedy, I downloaded the latest version of Knews and attempted a build and install. Well that fails with an error message after xmkmf. imake-Duse_Installed-I/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/config Imakefile.c:13 Imake.tmpl: No such file or directory imake:Exit code33 Stop
Checked /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/config and sure as hell the only things in there are Motif.rules and Motif.tmpl
Make and pmake are both installed. This does not at all look like what is present in the same directory on Slackware and FreeBSD on both of which I am able to build the version of Knews. What has failed on my SuSE installation that the appropriate files are missing from this directory?
Second: dialout to my ISP.
Have both a script and EZPPP installed and configured which is operational for either su or root. The dialout group is setup and the permissions set, and EZPPP errors out as follows: After connecting to the ISP the error: Xlib:unexpected async reply (sequence 0x6b1a)! and the connection drops.
Having to su to use dailout is a major pain in the ass, and again a step that is unnecessary using the same setup on Slackware. What am I doing wrong that this is such a major issue with SuSE and not Slackware?
Lastly:
I downloaded the latest update for the gimp, gimp.rpm and the associated gtk.rpm. The later installed fine. When attempting to install gimp.rpm it errors out with the following: Failed dependancy check failed dependancies libxdelta.so.0 is needed by gimp-0.99.17-0. Where in the flaming jesus is libxdelta and how do I get it?
Any help and/or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
