Yes, I use this when the graphical login doesn't work. However Andrei's "if anything goes wrong with X configuration, you may not be able to access your system" makes me fear that even this wouldn't work anymore. As long as I can go to text mode with init 3 I guess everything can be reversed (at least with the help of the list ;-) ) .
