As a followup to this. The ftp server I want to run is part of CR> another application but evewn though I have no ftp server running it says CR> that it cannot bind to port 21. What I am trying to do is to unlink port 21 CR> so that the application can use it.
CR> Have you made sure that nothing else is using port 21 by doing a CR> 'netstat -a'? Just tried that and no nothing else is binding 21. If ths helps this is the setup: The user is Fidogate (news) uid 9. The application is call Irex (Internet Rex) which basically is a Fidonet application which collects mail using FTP, Email and Binkd. It also has servers, namely FTP POP3 and SMTP. I am more interested in the FTP server. What happens is that I tell it to start the ftp server on a console. It is at this stage that it says that it cannot bind to port 21. However if I do 'sudo ./rexl -daemon' then it will bind. My problem is that by using sudo it affects the config files.
