I've been going round and round with this. My old HP LaserJet 4 died and I bought the Samsung multi-printer because it came with Linux drivers. The printer acts a bit flaky and scanning is a twisty nightmare, but first things first.
Every-time I install the OEM driver and reboot, my sound goes away. Nothing on YouTube or on playing DVDs. I've searched for alsa help and have hit a brick wall.
BTW, uninstalling the driver does not help. Once it's been installed, the only way I've been able to get sound back is to reinstall, and I've probably done that 10 times in the past couple days.
I had a similar issue and it was related to user permissions. First check if the root can access the sound card. See this link for further information:
Thanks, somehow the driver install turned the gain to 0. The URL gave me what I needed. Jim -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
