Can I use this from a remote machine over the Internet? Is it safe?
Yes, if you turn on the ssl option within. And I always change the port to use some (unknown) high port rather than the default, just to make it harder to find.

years
as my desktop. We currently have two Novell servers. Finally convinced
the
posers that be to install Linux on one of the servers as a test. Since I
am
using 8.2, will install that. The server is strictly a file and print server. No email or web, which is handled separately.
Everyone else uses Windows as a desktop, and the accounting package and several other packages are Windows programs. I know I have to install
Samba,
among other things.
Previous versions of SuSE used to have an option for installing a server.
Should I install X at all. Seems like I shouldn't, but i am interested in opinions. What about webmin for administration/ I guess that means installing apache.
Pointers to a useful article would be nice.
