ntp client

I set up the ntp client in yast to use an ntp server, but it only seems to synchronize on boot. When is it supposed to synchronize? How do I adjust the schedule? I've tried running ntpdate, but that says the socket's in use or something and I think it's because setting up the ntp client installed and started the ntp server. Thanks!
