Recently a patch was added to kwin5, so that a bug related to freezes with nvidia graphics cards is resolved. Could you try updating to the latest kwin5 with fix_nvidia.patch?
I'd be happy to. Where do I find it, and how do I run it?
Try installing a package from here[1]. After installation, kill kwin_x11 and start the new one from a shell or krunner.
OK. Done that. I'll report back here later.
Thanks
Bob
AFAICT the update kwin_x11 seems to have stopped the system-wide freezes that I was experiencing before.
Spoke too soon. :-( It just happened again, after I'd started playing some music (which I hadn't tried in the couple of days since applying the patch). Lasted about 10 seconds.
So, that brings mpd, pulseaudio and alsa into the mix...
And htop running on vt2 confirms that kwin_x11 was running at 100% on one (of four) cores during this event.
