Please, what could be wrong?
I get the same error, always the first time i start the connection (by clicking on kinternet).
But then, when I click again, it goes through and connects.
I assume it takes some time for the card to be ready to accept the init string "AT+cgdcont=1,"IP","gprs.omnitel.net"". When kinternet / pppd throws the init strings to the card one after the other, it might be too fast.
Again, I get this error *everytime* at the first connect attempt, and then the second one *always* connects without this error.
This seems to be card specific for the sony ericsson cards, I haven't seen it with other cards, such as the sierra wireless cards.
Well, I try several times, and nothing. I get the same error. And first and second and third time. Could it be that card first wants to get PIN? I do not remember exactly, but it seems my coleague in Windows was inserting PIN (four digit number).
If the sim is configured to want a PIN then you need to give it. So yes, that could be the reason. AFAIR there is also an AT command to send the PIN. you would have to put that in one of the first init strings, but not the very first, which must always be 'AT+cfun=1'. I remember having seen it mentioned somewhere, but i do not use a PIN, so I did not keep it. May be you google a little to find it.
I do not have Windows. All my PC (at work and at home is with SuSE, so I cannot try seting up card in windows). If it could be PIN how can I insert it?
Why don't you take out the sim from the pcmcia card, put it in a normal phone, disable that stupid PIN, put the sim back in the PCMCIA card, and try again? The PIN should not be a requirement to use GPRS etc, it is as usual something you can activate - or deactivate. Testing the sim in a normal phone will also quickly confirm if it is really the PIN which is causing the error here. HTH, Matt
