All this having been said.... does anyone know that patch for this problem??? Just for the sake of argument, I DON'T use the root console for all my daily work but I still want it to remember any settings I give it to make it a nicer place to visit on those RARE occasions where I might be FORCED (against my better judgement and all extant Unix/Linux dogma) to do so...... Then, now that you're having actual problems, perhaps it's time to start doing things properly. ;-) If you really don't want to be troubled to present a password to su, SuSE's "root console" entry in the tools menu allows one to make it remember your root password.
