Hello everyone: It would seem from the recent posts that the point of my earlier post is lost to some of you, that is, the inclusion of 'perks' or promotional items (known in the marketing world at 'shiny shit') included with the SuSE distributions. The purpose of a perk or promotional item is to keep the company name in front of the customer. It doesn't matter what form the perk takes, a pen, desk calender, golf ball, tee-shirt, lapel pin, etc., so long as the company name is in front of the customer, then the perk is doing its job. My point is simply this: if a company (such as SuSE) is going to invest time, effort and money in using promotional items, then those promotional items should be quality items. These items are a reflection on the company. The SuSE/Tux lapel pin says 'quality' - the 2002 one-sheet calender screams 'cheap'. If a company is using cheap perks, then the company is simply wasting time and money, as the perk or promotional item will have a negative influence on the customer. In terms of Christmas, why not. Paying customers should have a perk, even if it is only the company's way of saying 'thanks' for buying our product. As for the trees and printed manuals, I'm not even going there. However, I will say that you can't always get online help if you machine is broken. Printed manuals have saved me more than once. You may never read a manual but, when your machine goes out to lunch, the manual may be the only way for you to recover - and for that, the manuals are worth their weight in gold. Cheers, Mike
